Case study: Novas Group, Arlington House, Camden, London

Novas Group, a charitable organisation providing housing and community-based services with an annual turnover of £30m have commissioned Clarson Goff to manage the redevelopment project of Arlington House in Camden, North London.

Built in 1905, Arlington House originally provided accommodation for 1,100 men over six floors. The vision for the project is to provide a building that inspires people and enables a single homeless person to break the poverty cycle.

The regeneration of Arlington House will transform the existing hostel to provide more generous room standards and integrate the accommodation with other non-housing initiatives, such as a market place, an art gallery and a cafe. This modern flexible space will be built within the existing facades and character of Arlington.

The project is also targeting the application of renewable energy and the attainment of a ‘very good’ BREEAM rating.

The Arlington House Refurbishment is complicated by the fact that the buildings will remain occupied by vulnerable residents. The works will be undertaken in phases, and as such will involve the decanting of vulnerable occupants and Novas employees.
